Success Story of Malaysian Ideas: Prof. Salman Discusses Noise and Vibration Expertise at MyIDEAS Summit

The Malaysia Idea Summit (MyIDEAS), organized by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), began on November 27, 2024, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). This three-day event aims to democratize ideas and enhance higher education while positioning Malaysia as a regional and global center for intellectual discourse and innovation. The summit incorporates a whole-of-government approach, indicating collaboration across various sectors to achieve its ambitious objectives.

Participation of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is actively participating in the summit as an exhibitor and through the involvement of its experts who serve as panellists, moderators, and chairpersons in different programs. These programs include forums, parallel sessions, and pocket talks designed to encourage meaningful discussions and share innovative insights.

Focus on Transformative Ideas

A significant focus of the first day was “Forum 2: The Success of Malaysian Ideas,” which featured speakers from various industries, including Prof. Salman Dr. Leong, Director of the Institute of Noise and Vibration (IKG), recognized as a Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE). The session was chaired by YB Tuan Ahmad Fahmi Mohamad Fadzil, Minister of Communications. Notable panellists included Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia; Tan Sri Mohamed Nazir Tun Dato Indera Haji Abdul Razak from Ikhlas Capital; and Dato’ Kamarul A Muhamed, CEO of Aerodyne Group. The discussion centered on how transformative ideas are generated in Malaysia and the factors contributing to their success.

Insights from Prof. Salman

During the session, Prof. Salman shared insights gained from his extensive academic and professional experience, highlighting the significance of discipline and resilience within academia. He encouraged attendees to perceive challenges as opportunities for innovation and advocated for collaboration among universities, industries, and government entities to achieve impactful results.

Contribution of IKG

The IKG has contributed to major national projects, including the MRT and KLIA Sky Bridge, and has been instrumental in addressing the acoustics of the PICC Plenary Hall.

Future Programming of MyIDEAS

MyIDEAS will continue for two additional days, featuring a range of programming aimed at celebrating Malaysia’s intellectual and innovative spirit. The event underscores the ongoing contributions from UTM and other leading institutions in shaping the narrative of Malaysian ideas on the global stage.
