Thailand’s OECD Journey Takes Center Stage at First Siam Dialogue at Chula

Chulalongkorn University, through its Institute of Asian Studies, has launched the inaugural “Siam Dialogue @ IAS CU – Emerging Conversations on Asia and the World,” a new policy dialogue platform aimed at strengthening international academic and policy engagement. The event, held on 31 March 2026, brought together academics, diplomats, policymakers, and students to exchange perspectives on global and regional issues.

The forum featured a keynote lecture by Gita Kothari, who discussed the benefits of Thailand’s potential accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. As Thailand moves toward membership, the dialogue highlighted the importance of meeting international standards in economic development, governance, and social progress.

Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initiative aims to position Thailand as a hub for intellectual exchange while supporting informed policy discussions. Unlike broader forums, Siam Dialogue focuses on targeted, high-impact issues such as geopolitics, economics, and sustainability.

The event also underscored the role of universities in shaping policy discourse and preparing future leaders to engage with global challenges.
