Chulalongkorn University Proposes Innovative Medical Solutions to NHSO for Advancing Thailand’s Healthcare

Chulalongkorn University recently collaborated with the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and the Thai Red Cross Society to convene a meeting with the National Health Security Office (NHSO). The meeting, held on December 22, 2025, took place at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital’s Bhumisirimangalanusorn Building.

Innovative Medical Solutions for Thailand’s Healthcare

During the event, attendees engaged in discussions focused on various medical innovations aimed at improving Thailand’s healthcare system. Leadership from Chulalongkorn University included Professor Dr. Rungsun Rerknimitr, Assistant President for Innovation, alongside other medical specialists. Key representatives from the NHSO included Dr. Jadej Thammatacharee and Dr. Atthaporn Limpanyalert.

The meeting’s central aim was to present the innovative medical solutions developed at Chulalongkorn University for integration into the national healthcare service system. This initiative seeks to enhance the quality of healthcare for the Thai population. Several innovations were showcased, including advancements in digital medical technologies and healthcare service management.

Highlighted Projects

Highlighted projects included:

  • Poly Feed – A balloon-type percutaneous feeding tube that allows for direct nutrition delivery to the stomach.
  • Endoscopic Variceal Ligation (EVL) – A technique designed to prevent and treat bleeding from esophageal varices.
  • Deep GI – An artificial intelligence system that analyzes gastrointestinal tract abnormalities from endoscopic images, which has received approval from the Thai Food and Drug Administration.
  • Medical Sharps Disposal Container – A new design aimed at improving the management of medical waste.

The feedback from the NHSO is considered essential for connecting university research and innovations to practical applications within healthcare services, specifically regarding national health security policies and commercial development. Chulalongkorn University expresses an intention to leverage this collaboration to translate medical innovations into effective applications, thereby enhancing universal health coverage and improving healthcare quality for the population of Thailand.
