City University Malaysia Celebrates 28th Convocation Ceremony and APEL.Q Graduates Recognition

City University Malaysia recently conducted its 28th Convocation Ceremony at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), marking the graduation of over 2,300 students from a variety of academic programs. The event featured graduates from more than 70 countries, highlighting a theme of unity and achievement.
Inaugural APEL.Q Graduates
A noteworthy aspect of this year’s ceremony was the introduction of the inaugural cohort of APEL.Q graduates. This group of students had their professional experience and expertise formally acknowledged through academic credentials, specifically in the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program, which they completed via the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning route.
Distinguished Graduates
Among the distinguished graduates were several senior national leaders, including Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari Bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Yang Berhormat Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohammad Yusof Apdal, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation; Yang Berbahagia Datuk Dr. Awang Alik Jeman, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs; and Yang Berbahagia Datuk Wira Dr. M. Noor Azman Bin Taib, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. Their presence emphasized the legitimacy of the APEL.Q pathway, which showcases the significance of experiential learning in attaining academic and professional recognition.

During the ceremony, YBhg. Datuk Mohamed Zaini Amran, Pro-Chancellor of City University Malaysia, reflected on the achievements of the university and the resilience of its graduates. He noted that the awarding of degrees signifies not only academic accomplishment but also the determination and perseverance demonstrated by graduates during their academic journeys.
Cultural Performances and Awards
The event also featured cultural performances by the City University Malaysia Choir and the Tradern Arts Ensemble, illustrating the university’s commitment to honoring its diverse community. Additionally, various awards were presented to students who had excelled academically and made significant contributions to co-curricular activities throughout their studies.

City University Malaysia has gained recognition as a notable institution in higher education, achieving a 5-Star rating under the QS Stars system and ranking #106 in South-Eastern Asia in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026.
