Swinburne Sarawak Design Student Wins Outstanding Award at Sarawak Youth Talent 2025 TikTok Competition

A Multimedia Design student from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Aisya Syahmina Binti Zailani, has been awarded one of five Outstanding Awards at the Sarawak Youth Talent (SYT) 2025 TikTok Video Competition. This recognition aligns with the university’s approach to project-based, sustainability-oriented education. The competition, organized by Responsible Borneo (REBORN), focused on the theme “Responsible Tourism and Sustainable Transformation” and attracted over 100 video submissions, including entries from member countries of the East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Federation (EATOF).

Aisya’s Achievement

Aisya’s video, titled “Are You a Responsible Traveller?”, ranked in the top 5% of the submissions and earned her a cash prize of RM1,500. The project was developed as part of her coursework in Digital Video Compositing, highlighting the practical application of her studies.

Importance of Responsible Tourism

In discussing her achievement, Aisya emphasized the importance of producing content that encourages responsible tourism. She noted that her work contributes positively to a broader public campaign and underscores the role of design in advocating for sustainability.

Industry Partnership and Collaboration

This accomplishment is part of an industry partnership facilitated by design lecturer Eunice Law, who highlighted the necessity of managing multiple deliverables across diverse platforms, including video and print materials, to effectively convey essential messages regarding responsible tourism. The collaboration includes the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, along with other key stakeholders, reinforcing the university’s commitment to providing education that is relevant to industry needs.

Promoting Responsible Tourism

The materials created for the event are being utilized as educational resources to promote responsible tourism practices in the region.
