Empowering Local Students: UiTM Raub Lecturers Enhance Interpersonal Skills Through Community Program

Lecturers from the Academy of Language Studies at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Raub recently conducted a University Social Responsibility (USR) initiative titled “Empowering Interpersonal Skills.” The program, held on August 6, 2025, took place at Sekolah Menengah Agama Al Ulum Addiniah Dong in Raub, Malaysia.

Objective of the Initiative

The initiative aimed to support Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which emphasizes quality education. Its primary focus was to enhance interpersonal competencies, critical thinking, and digital literacy among students. A group of 30 students, aged 14 to 16, participated in the program, which sought to improve their communication capabilities and proficiency in presenting ideas through modern digital tools.

Event Activities

The event began with registration and a photography session, followed by icebreaker activities designed to foster engagement among participants. A quiz was administered to gauge the students’ initial understanding. In the second part of the session, lecturers introduced various online applications that facilitate the creation of impactful visual presentations. The program concluded with students delivering concise presentations based on the content they developed.

Feedback and Outcomes

Feedback from participants suggested marked improvements in their presentation skills and confidence levels. Many expressed interest in participating in future programs and a desire to pursue higher education.

Community Impact

This initiative contributed to the educational development of the local community and furthered UiTM’s commitment to promoting educational excellence and fostering partnerships, thus aligning with the principles of Sustainable Development Goal 17.
