KKU Humanities Faculty Hosts Youth Talent Showcase in Eastern Languages and Cultural Competition with Over 1,000 Students from Northeastern Thailand

On September 1, 2025, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Khon Kaen University organized the “3rd Academic and Eastern Languages & Cultural Competition,” which took place in Meeting Room 3 of the HS.05 Building. The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orathai Piayura, the Dean of the Faculty, and saw participation from over 1,000 high school students representing 119 schools across Northeastern Thailand.
Objectives of the Competition
The primary goal of the competition was to enhance high school students’ skills in Eastern languages and cultural studies. It encouraged participants to develop their potential, apply their knowledge creatively, and gain collaborative experience. Dr. Orathai noted significant interest from more than 100 schools in the region, emphasizing the event’s role as a platform for youth development and as an opportunity to promote the faculty’s academic offerings within the community.
Competition Activities
The competition featured a range of activities, including speech contests in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, alongside performances in Eastern chalk art, singing, Cover Dance competitions, and general knowledge quizzes. Cultural exhibition booths were also set up to showcase various aspects of Eastern cultures, offering participants a creative and informative experience.
Engagement and Enthusiasm
Asst. Prof. Dr. Benyatip Suphakalin, Head of the Department of Eastern Languages, pointed out the variety of activities available to students, which included traditional Korean games and other interactive displays designed to nurture creativity and cultural understanding.
Participant Experience
The event fostered a vibrant atmosphere, with students expressing enthusiasm about their participation. Notable participants included Ms. Nongnapas Omruk from Akat Umnuay Suksa School and Ms. Laorat Yuennan from Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn Ubon Ratchathani School, who shared their experiences in the Chinese speech contest and expressed interest in pursuing their education at Khon Kaen University in the future.
