From August 20 to 22, 2025, the 11th World Educators Conference (WWEC) and GLEE Global Living and Education Expo took place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. The event, centered around the theme “Deeply Implementing Talent Strategies, Accelerating the Path Toward Becoming an Education Powerhouse,” attracted leaders, experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, and educators from various countries to discuss innovative educational practices that support national strategies and personal development.

Leadership and Keynote Address

Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) attended the conference as part of a delegation led by Professor Chen Xiaoyun, who serves as Chairman of KLUST and Star Teenagers International Group. Professor Chen was invited as a distinguished guest to the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote address during the 2nd Yangtze River Delta High-Quality Development of Vocational Education Conference, where he provided insights on the global expansion of Chinese vocational education.

The 2nd Yangtze River Delta Conference, which occurred concurrently with the WWEC, focused on themes such as “Industry–Education Integration, Strengthening Vocational Education for a Strong Nation.” Discussions centered on strategies to enhance vocational education and its contribution to regional economic transformation, emphasizing the necessity for a strong talent foundation to support a modern economic system.

Insights on Global Industry Talent Development

In his keynote titled “Focusing on Global Industry Talent Development, Building an ASEAN Vocational Education Community,” Professor Chen highlighted opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative for international educational collaboration. He noted the recent acquisition of Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur and its transformation into Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology, reflecting ongoing internationalization efforts at the institution.

Strategic Emphasis and Partnerships

Professor Chen also underscored the significance of integrating industry and education for the high-quality advancement of both universities and enterprises. He outlined KLUST’s strategic emphasis on digitalization and artificial intelligence, demonstrating its commitment to forging partnerships with industry leaders to meet market needs and develop high-quality talent.

Partnership with iSoftStone Education

During the conference, KLUST entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with iSoftStone Education to enhance vocational training through technology research and development, as well as combined educational resources. This partnership aims to foster talent development, internships, digital curriculum design, and support the advancement of vocational education in alignment with the Belt and Road Initiative.

Discussion on Artificial Intelligence in Education

Additionally, KLUST Vice President Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Tan Chee Fai took part in a roundtable discussion addressing the impact of artificial intelligence on vocational education. He emphasized a shift toward a data-driven educational model that accommodates personalized learning, while cautioning against an excessive reliance on technology that may overshadow creativity and resilience.

Commitment to Transforming Vocational Education

The conference served as a platform for KLUST to demonstrate its commitment to transforming vocational education and facilitating international collaboration, promoting resource sharing and standardization within the region, particularly between China and ASEAN countries.
