PolyU Launches Hong Kong’s First Clinical Education Conference and Joins Forces with The University of Queensland for Research Advancement in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) recently organized Hong Kong’s first Clinical Education Conference on July 12, aimed at improving clinical education in physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The event featured a collaboration agreement with the University of Queensland to establish a Joint Health Professions Education Research Laboratory, which aims to foster collaborative research and innovation in healthcare professional education.
Conference Attendance
The conference attracted over 300 clinical educators and specialists from various sectors, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private practices. Key participants included Mr. David Ng, Assistant Director (Rehabilitation and Medical Social Services) of the Social Welfare Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government; Prof. Marco Pang, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at PolyU; and Prof. Sandy Brauer, Deputy Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Queensland.
Partnership Agreement
During the conference, Professors Marco Pang and Sandy Brauer formalized the establishment of the Joint Health Professions Education Research Laboratory through a partnership agreement, indicating a shared dedication to advancing educational and research objectives.
Importance of Collaboration
Prof. Marco Pang highlighted PolyU’s extensive experience in training healthcare professionals and emphasized the importance of leveraging the strengths of both institutions to promote innovation in education and enhance collaboration between academia and industry. The conference also featured keynote addresses from notable speakers, including Prof. Sandy Brauer and Prof. Jodie Copley from the University of Queensland, who discussed recent advancements in allied health curricula and clinical reasoning in education.
Interactive Sessions
Additionally, the conference included interactive sessions led by experienced practitioners that focused on exploring innovative clinical placement models and coaching methodologies for clinical educators.
