UBU Cultural Learning Walk: Exploring Sustainable Development Goals in Ubon Ratchathani University

On July 19, 2025, the Office of International Relations and Education at Ubon Ratchathani University organized the UBU Cultural Learning Walk in the historical old town area of Ubon Ratchathani. This event involved over 30 participants, including Thai students as well as exchange students from various countries, including China, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

Event Objectives

The primary objective of the event was to enhance cultural understanding and introduce students to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through experiential learning and community engagement.

Significant Locations Visited

During the walk, participants visited several significant locations:

Wat Supattanaram Worawihan

The group explored the temple’s European-influenced architecture and participated in cultural and environmental conservation activities, such as releasing fish into the Mun River to promote biodiversity.

Fresh Market

Attendees learned about the local economy and sustainable consumption practices by interacting with vendors and sampling traditional foods.

Street Art and Phuttha Kong Shrine

Participants discovered the impact of Chinese culture in Ubon Ratchathani, as expressed through public art and local heritage.

Gurdwara (Sikh Temple)

The event provided an opportunity for students to learn about the Sikh community and its contributions to Thai society.

Cultural Exchange and Learning

This activity allowed for significant cultural exchange and mutual learning among participants. Ubon Ratchathani University students notably improved their English communication skills through interactions with their international peers in this enriching environment.
