UBDSBE Gala Night 2025: Celebrating Legacy and Enhancing Alumni Connections at Universiti Brunei Darussalam
The Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) hosted an Alumni Gala Night on July 9, 2025, to commemorate the university’s 40th anniversary. The event, themed ‘Legacy for Our Community: Honouring the Past and Shaping the Future,’ brought together alumni, faculty members, and former deans to celebrate the accomplishments of UBDSBE and strengthen relationships within the university community.
Dean’s Address on Growth and Achievements
In her address, Dr. Wardah Azimah Sumardi, Dean of UBDSBE, discussed the institution’s growth and its recognition on a global scale. She highlighted key milestones, including the attainment of international accreditations from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Dr. Sumardi also emphasized the significance of collaborations with organizations such as the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), as well as involvement in initiatives like the Principles for Responsible Management Education and the Babson Collaborative for Entrepreneurship Education. These partnerships reflect the School’s commitment to responsible leadership, academic excellence, and global engagement.
Establishment of the Alumni Society
The establishment of a UBDSBE Alumni Society was also discussed, aimed at providing a platform for alumni to reconnect, expand their professional networks, and participate in mentorship and collaborative efforts that benefit both the School and the wider university community.
Experiences Shared by an Alumnus
Allen Lai, an alumnus of UBDSBE and a newly appointed UBD Council Member, shared his experiences at the university, describing it as a transformative environment that facilitated his personal and professional development. He noted that impactful educational experiences, coupled with active participation in extracurricular activities, greatly enriched his time at the university.
