HUST’s Sino-French Biotech Graduates Advance to Prestigious Global Universities

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) recently held a graduation ceremony for the first cohort of its Sino-French Joint Undergraduate Program in Biological Sciences on June 18. This initiative represents HUST’s inaugural international undergraduate partnership.
Graduate Success and Global Opportunities
According to reports, over 50% of the graduates from this program have gained admission to esteemed global universities, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Université Paris-Saclay. Additionally, more than 30% of graduates will pursue further studies at prestigious Chinese institutions, such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Zhejiang University.
Program Development and Structure
The Sino-French program was developed in collaboration with Université Paris-Saclay, combining the strengths of both Chinese and French educational systems. Students in this program benefit from a fully English-taught curriculum that includes small-group seminars and a dual-instructor model featuring both French and Chinese faculty. This structure is intended to provide specialized guidance in global scientific advancements while also offering localized academic support.
Focus on Research and International Engagement
The program emphasizes research and international engagement, with participants achieving accolades in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition for two consecutive years, where they received both gold and silver medals. The curriculum incorporates fieldwork and academic seminars in France, as well as joint academic symposia hosted in China, aimed at enhancing students’ global perspectives and scientific experiences.
Cultural Exchange and Recruitment
Cultural exchange is a key component of the program, featuring various activities such as traditional craft workshops and events for international students. Currently, the program is actively recruiting students from nine provinces across China and has established itself as a significant model for internationalized education at HUST, aligning with China’s national strategy in the life sciences sector.
