Bringing Health Awareness to the Community: Insights from Karnival Jom Sihat 2025

On April 19, 2025, Karnival Jom Sihat 2025 was held in Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya, with the participation of 119 individuals. This event focused on promoting health and wellness, organized by students and faculty from the School of Allied Healthcare and Nursing at UOW Malaysia.
Community Support
Support for the carnival came from various community leaders, including Member of Parliament YB Lee Chean Chung, State Assemblyman YB Tuan Dr Mohammad Fahmi bin Ngah, Zone 24 Municipal Councillor Encik Farhan Shah bin Ridzuan, Chairperson of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee Encik Ganapathy a/l Periyasamy, and Professor Dr Hon Wei Min, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at UOW Malaysia.
Health Education Activities
A range of activities were offered to educate attendees on health-related topics. Free health screenings, covering blood pressure, glucose levels, Body Mass Index (BMI), and vision tests, were provided. A Zumba session facilitated by physiotherapy students promoted physical fitness, while a designated Children’s Corner offered interactive instruction on dental hygiene.
Life-Saving Skills
The event also featured a Basic Life Support (BLS) booth where participants could learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid techniques. Additionally, a station dedicated to breast examinations aimed to raise awareness about early detection, and a talk on dengue prevention highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding public health.
Conclusion
The carnival concluded with a lucky draw, reflecting a positive turnout and reinforcing the event’s success in enhancing health awareness within the community.
