UOW Malaysia Experts Share Insights at Smart Manufacturing Seminar

Experts from the University of Wollongong Malaysia participated in a Smart Manufacturing Seminar organized by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). The event, coordinated by the IEM Electronic Engineering Technical Division (eETD) with assistance from additional technical divisions, attracted around 70 participants, including IEM members and professionals from the industry.

Presentations by Industry Experts

The seminar included presentations from six experts, focusing on current advancements in Smart Manufacturing. Professor Dr. Yeap Gik Hong presented on Lean Manufacturing in a session titled “Unveiling Lean Manufacturing: The Art of Streamlining Success,” where he discussed principles and tools aimed at minimizing waste and improving efficiency in industrial practices.

Professor Dr. J. Joshua Thomas discussed the intersection of artificial intelligence and electronic engineering in his presentation, “Harnessing Generative AI: A New Frontier for Electronic Engineers.” He highlighted developments in technologies such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and other emerging AI applications.

Associate Professor Dr. Lee Gin Chong’s presentation, “Enhancing Automation with IoT: Bridging Technology and Intelligence,” examined the integration of Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twin technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in automation, particularly in areas like predictive maintenance and process optimization.
