Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) received notable recognition at the Mandalika Essay Competition held on February 23, 2025. The university’s delegation achieved a total of 13 awards, including the championship title, highlighting its standing in the academic and innovative sectors.
A Strong Display of Talent
Participants from various Indonesian universities took part in the competition, where UNAIR exhibited significant talent. The university earned accolades that included a third-place honorable mention, two gold medals, one silver medal, five bronze medals, the best presentation award, and a second-place finish in another category. These accomplishments indicate UNAIR’s commitment to developing graduates capable of excelling on both national and international platforms.
Innovative Solutions for Environmental Challenges
Two key innovations presented by the UNAIR delegation contributed to this success: C-Mount and Marine Robots for Ecosystem Conservation. C-Mount is an artificial intelligence-based technology focused on monitoring marine ecosystems, particularly coral reefs. The Marine Robot is designed to autonomously eliminate plastic waste from oceans while evaluating marine health. These initiatives aim to address pressing environmental challenges such as plastic pollution and climate change.
Support and Collaboration
Andini Carolina, team coordinator from UNAIR’s Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, emphasized the importance of extensive preparation and faculty support in achieving these results. She noted, “Our success stemmed from comprehensive research and thorough presentation training, combined with invaluable support from our professors.”
Interdisciplinary Approach
The collaborative effort involved students from various faculties, including Science and Technology, Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline, Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and Social and Political Sciences. This interdisciplinary approach reflects UNAIR’s capability in promoting innovative and pragmatic solutions.
