Rector’s Strategic Leadership Meeting: Evaluation of UNAIR’s Performance

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) conducted a strategic leadership meeting on December 31, 2024, at the Management Office Hall of the MERR-C Campus. This gathering included university executives, faculty leaders, school heads, directors, and representatives from various administrative units.

Highlights of the Meeting

During the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih underscored the significance of collaborative problem-solving and the development of innovative initiatives. He encouraged attendees to propose actionable ideas to address the challenges faced by the institution, indicating that the occasion was appropriate for formulating suggestions.

Recognition of Dedicated Efforts

Prof. Nasih recognized the dedication exhibited by all departments and work units over the past year, highlighting that their collective efforts contributed to UNAIR’s prominent standing as it marked its 70th anniversary. He noted the university’s growing recognition at both national and international levels, as evidenced by rankings in various educational systems, including the QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education.

Addressing Graduate Employability

The meeting also addressed critical issues such as graduate employability. Prof. Nasih emphasized the importance of expanding extracurricular activities to enhance job readiness and integrating technological skills into esteemed programs. He proposed targeted training sessions, including certification programs, to better equip graduates for the workforce. Specifically, he mentioned that obtaining Brevet A/B certifications could be particularly beneficial for students pursuing careers in fields like taxation or accounting.

University Research Impact

Furthermore, discussions focused on the impact of university research. Although data on publications and citations were positive, Prof. Nasih stressed the importance of ensuring that research outcomes deliver tangible social and economic benefits. He encouraged faculty members to submit research proposals that are ready for commercialization but currently lack funding.

The discussions were facilitated by Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, DEA, DVM, and Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, MSi. Various faculty deans and unit leaders actively participated in the conversation.

Prof. Nasih reiterated UNAIR’s guiding principles, including its slogans “Excellence with Morality,” “Integrity Zone,” “UNAIR SMARTVERSITY,” and “UNAIR Kampus HEBAT.” He emphasized that a commitment to integrity and excellence is essential for the university’s ongoing development.

The meeting concluded with an evaluation presented by Dian Ekowati, Head of the Planning and Development Board, who announced performance awards for the faculties and schools within UNAIR.
