Hong Kong Partners Week 2024: Eight Universities Unite to Promote Study Opportunities in Hong Kong
Eight publicly funded universities in Hong Kong recently coordinated an event known as “Hong Kong Partners Week,” focused on promoting the “Study in Hong Kong” initiative and strengthening ties with international educational institutions. This year’s event saw participation from representatives of 58 international university partners, up from 38 in the previous year.
Participating Institutions
The participating institutions included City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong. The initiative aligns with governmental efforts to position Hong Kong as an international education hub.
Address by Professor James Tang
Professor James Tang, Secretary-General of the University Grants Committee, addressed attendees, highlighting the advanced research and student facilities available in Hong Kong. He noted the city’s appeal as a study destination for international exchange students, underscoring the significance of international collaboration in enriching academic experiences.
Event Highlights
The event, which took place from December 8 to 14, 2024, featured discussions led by industry leaders about recent developments in Hong Kong. Notable speakers included Ms. Karen Wang from HSBC, who discussed Hong Kong’s strategic role in the Greater Bay Area, and Ms. Kristy Cheng, who shared insights into career opportunities for international students within the region. Additionally, Mr. Bernard Chan spoke on potential growth in the arts and culture sectors.
Campus Tours and Cultural Excursions
Participants were offered tours of university facilities, showcasing a variety of educational resources and innovations. The schedule also included excursions around Hong Kong, allowing attendees to explore the city’s cultural and historical significance, with visits to notable sites such as Tai Kwun and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
Strengthening Global Educational Ties
The involved universities maintain strong student exchange programs that provide local students with international educational experiences while attracting exchange students from abroad, thereby enhancing Hong Kong’s global educational standing. This effort substantially contributes to reinforcing Hong Kong as a key location for higher education.
International Collaboration
A diverse array of participating international university partners was represented, including institutions from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the UK, and the USA, illustrating a wide range of academic collaborations.
