23 UNAIR Journals Achieve SINTA Accreditation for Enhanced Academic Quality
Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has reported that 23 of its academic journals have successfully obtained accreditation or reaccreditation across SINTA levels 1 to 5, as detailed by the UNAIR Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing, and Intellectual Property Rights (LIPJPHKI) on October 15, 2024. This accreditation reflects the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of its academic publications.
The SINTA Accreditation System
The SINTA (Science and Technology Index) accreditation system, administered by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, serves as an important mechanism for assessing and acknowledging the quality of scientific journals.
Strategies Supporting Accreditation
Prof. Hery Purnobasuki, Head of LIPJPHKI, attributed this achievement to the commitment of the academic community and the implementation of a “Super Team” approach. He pointed out that a systematic journal roadmap has played a critical role in advancing the quality and indexing status of the journals.
The roadmap includes defined indexing targets for each journal, supported by university-level mentoring. Prof. Purnobasuki emphasized that a structured approach is essential for attaining higher standards in journal indexing.
Impact on Research Performance
The accreditation of these journals is anticipated to enhance UNAIR’s research performance at both national and international levels. Prof. Purnobasuki noted that the improved quality of journals is expected to position them as significant references for researchers worldwide.
This initiative is in line with UNAIR’s Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 5, which aims to generate impactful academic outputs that contribute to society, including publications in national and international journals as well as academic books.
Challenges in Journal Management
Prof. Purnobasuki also identified a critical challenge in journal management, namely the scarcity of high-quality and diverse manuscripts. In response, UNAIR has prioritized improving the quality and indexing statuses of its journals in efforts to attract reputable authors.
He stated, “The quality of a journal is a key factor in attracting authors to submit their papers. Setting clear targets for each journal enables us to continuously improve their indexing status.” He expressed optimism that these established goals will enhance UNAIR’s contributions to the global academic landscape.
