Shanghai Jiao Tong University Leadership Delegation Visits Singapore for International Collaboration

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) conducted a leadership visit to Singapore from December 15 to 17, 2025, led by President Ding Kuiling. The delegation’s agenda included interactions with various educational and community entities, highlighting initiatives aimed at fostering international collaboration.

Engagement with Singapore University of Technology and Design

A significant stop included the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), where the delegation reviewed the SJTU Graduate School Singapore. The trip also featured the unveiling ceremony for the Shanghai Jiao Tong University International Technology Transfer Southeast Asia Center. This center is intended to enhance cooperation with countries in Southeast Asia across research, education, and industry sectors. It seeks to elevate SJTU’s presence in the region by facilitating patent exchanges and collaborative research initiatives with notable institutions such as Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore.

Inauguration of the International Technology Transfer Center

On December 16, the delegation met with alumnus Lin Lianxing, after which the International Technology Transfer Southeast Asia Center was officially inaugurated. On the following day, President Ding held discussions with Li Yixian, Chairman of Business China Singapore, which focused on potential collaborative efforts including joint talent development, commercialization of technological achievements, and the establishment of high-level international forums.

Strategic Cooperation Agreement

Furthermore, SJTU and SUTD formalized their partnership through a strategic cooperation agreement, with the signing witnessed by Han Jun, Minister-Counsellor of the Education Office at the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, and Dai Lixiang, Vice President of SUTD. Both institutions articulated their commitment to enhancing collaboration in education, research, and talent cultivation by utilizing their distinct strengths and perspectives.

Visit to SUTD’s Design AI Maker Laboratory

Before the agreement was signed, the delegation visited the Design AI Maker Laboratory at SUTD, where advancements in design, artificial intelligence, and innovative educational practices were showcased.

Future Aspirations and Anniversary Celebration

During the visit, President Ding provided insights into SJTU’s ongoing developments and future aspirations, noting the upcoming celebration of the university’s 130th anniversary in 2026 and extending an invitation to alumni for a joint commemoration of this significant milestone.
