King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital Introduces Thailand’s First Ink-Free Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer

King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital under the Thai Red Cross Society has introduced Thailand’s first Surface-Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) technology for breast cancer patients. The advanced system uses real-time 3D surface imaging to guide radiation therapy without the need for traditional ink markings on the patient’s skin, marking a significant advancement in cancer treatment in the country.

Jiruth Sriratanaban, Director of the hospital and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, said the adoption of SGRT reflects the hospital’s commitment to improving treatment standards while ensuring patients’ physical and emotional well-being.

According to Chonlakiet Khorprasert, Head of the Department of Radiology, breast cancer remains a major health concern globally and in Thailand, making precision radiation therapy increasingly important to protect surrounding organs and improve patient outcomes.

Developed through collaboration among medical physicists, radiological technologists, and nurses, the SGRT system replaces permanent skin markings with precise 3D cameras. This allows patients to maintain normal daily activities, including bathing, skincare, and exercise, throughout their treatment period.
