King Abdulaziz University Hosts International Nuclear Science Olympiad 2026

King Abdulaziz University is hosting the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026) from 2 to 9 August 2026 at the university’s King Faisal Conference Center in Makkah Region. The event is being held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region.

The Olympiad brings together 120 students and specialists from 19 countries, promoting scientific excellence and international cooperation in nuclear science and technology. Among them, 62 students from around the world are participating in the competition’s theoretical and practical examinations.

The practical component includes two projects: one developed by King Abdulaziz University and another mathematics-based project prepared by the Scientific Committee. The theoretical examination covers five areas related to nuclear science and its applications in Saudi Arabia, including environmental nuclear science, medical applications, radiation measurement and nuclear reactor technology.

For the practical examination, King Abdulaziz University has developed a nuclear reactor simulator in Saudi Arabia. The simulator models three applications and provides participants with hands-on experience based on processes associated with nuclear reactors.

The Olympiad is organized by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy. INSO aims to inspire young scientists and strengthen global collaboration in nuclear science.
