The Quranic Botanic Garden (QBG), a member of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has strengthened its regional partnerships through a scientific visit to Jordan aimed at advancing plant biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration. The visit brought together experts from leading institutions to exchange knowledge and develop collaborative initiatives that preserve the Arab region’s rich botanical heritage.
The delegation visited the Royal Botanic Garden Jordan (RBG), where they explored innovative conservation practices, including seed banking, documentation of living plant collections, protection of threatened species, and nursery-based propagation for ecosystem restoration. Both institutions also exchanged herbarium materials and seeds of endangered plant species to support future conservation efforts.
QBG representatives also toured the Wadi Association for Sustainable Ecosystems Development in Al-Salt, learning about native plant propagation and community-driven approaches to restoring degraded landscapes. Discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration with local communities and agricultural authorities in ecosystem rehabilitation.
During a meeting with the International Union for Conservation of Nature Regional Office for West Asia (IUCN ROWA), the delegation explored opportunities to collaborate on dryland conservation, Red List assessments for threatened species, and restoration initiatives under the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
The visit reinforces QBG’s commitment to expanding regional and international partnerships while advancing research, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable environmental practices through meaningful scientific collaboration.
