Swinburne Sarawak’s Final Year Project Showcase Enhances Collaboration Between Industry and University

Swinburne University of Technology’s Sarawak Campus organized its Semester 2 Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase on December 2, 2025, highlighting the achievements of final-year students.

The showcase operated under the theme “People in STEM Can Work Together to Build a Better World,” featuring 134 projects presented by 290 students from the Faculty of Engineering, Computing, and Science. The disciplines represented included Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Communication Technology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science. An Industry Award Ceremony was also part of the event, focusing on fostering collaboration between the university and industry partners.
Opening Address
The opening address was delivered by Ir Professor Su Hieng Tiong, Dean of the Faculty, who welcomed attendees including students, faculty, alumni, and industry representatives. He acknowledged the sponsors of the event and awards from organizations such as SOCOE Sdn Bhd, Logikhaus Sdn Bhd, Sunvision Engineering Sdn Bhd, ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd, PCSS Consultancy Sdn Bhd, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Malaysia Chapter.

Plenary Session
The event also featured a plenary session with guest speakers, including Mr. Daniel Kho, Chief Technology Officer at Logikhaus Sdn Bhd, and Mr. Abdul Najib Azhfar Aini, Marketing and Communications Manager at SOCOE Sdn Bhd. Mr. Kho discussed opportunities available to engineering students after graduation, while Mr. Abdul Najib, along with alumni Gavin Ng and Jesse Ting, addressed the transition from academic projects to professional environments.
Industry Award Ceremony
The Industry Award Ceremony acknowledged outstanding student projects across various categories, with industry representatives commending the quality of the work presented and offering constructive feedback.
Notable Projects
Among the notable projects were “Hardware-Software Co-Design of a RISC-V Based Embedded Vision System for Face and Motion Detection,” presented by Samuel Haw Wei Aern, and a team project titled “A Centralised Event Management System” developed by Teo Jia En and colleagues, which received favorable responses from clients for its innovative solutions.
Student Experience
Students reported that the FYP Showcase not only improved their technical skills but also enhanced their confidence in addressing real-world challenges.
