Silliman University Participates in Regional AI Policy Development Workshop for Education
Silliman University recently took part in the “AI in Education for Future-Ready Workforce: A Policy Framework Development Workshop for Southeast Asia,” organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH). The event was held on December 11-12, 2025, at Pearl Hall in Quezon City.
University Representation
Fredlie P. Bucog, a faculty member involved in technology-oriented upskilling at the Dr. Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center, represented the university. His participation, along with delegates from other prominent Philippine higher education institutions, highlighted the engagement of these institutions in regional AI policy development.
Key Discussions and Contributions
During the workshop, Atty. Myrish Cadapan-Antonio, Chief Operating Officer of Khan Academy Philippines and a trustee of Silliman University, served as a panelist. The focus of her session was on aligning skills and qualifications in AI to effectively prepare the Southeast Asian workforce for future demands.
The two-day workshop brought together representatives from various Southeast Asian education ministries, SEAMEO Centres, higher education institutions, international development organizations such as UNESCO and the World Bank, as well as industry partners. Key discussions revolved around ethical governance, data privacy, equity, and human-centered approaches to AI in education. Participants collaborated to draft an initial Regional AI in Education Policy Framework, which emphasizes regional cooperation and inclusivity in building resilient education systems that meet future workforce needs.

Silliman University’s involvement reflects its commitment to the responsible integration of AI in education and its contribution to national and regional development initiatives. This participation aligns with the university’s ongoing collaboration with UNESCO on ethical AI and supports partner schools in developing AI initiatives in accordance with its AI Integration Framework for educational governance.
