UBDSBE Summer Leadership Programme 2025: Empowering Future Leaders at Universiti Brunei Darussalam

The School of Business and Economics at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBDSBE) recently held its Summer Leadership Programme (SLP) 2025 from July 1 to July 6, 2025. The event attracted 35 participants, comprising both local and international students from various higher education institutions, and emphasized leadership development, cross-cultural collaboration, and experiential learning.

Opening Session

During the program’s opening session, Dr. Wardah Azimah Haji Sumardi, the newly appointed Deputy Dean, reiterated the institution’s commitment to developing innovative and socially responsible leaders, aligning with its accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a recognized body for business school accreditation worldwide.

Program Features

The program featured a range of sessions conducted by academic staff and industry professionals, covering various leadership and social themes. Workshops included topics such as “Leading Self and Others” and “Solving Problems and Making Decisions,” facilitated by Dr. Rizki Edmi Edison, an expert in neuroscience-informed leadership. Other sessions addressed entrepreneurship and leadership with Dr. Annie Dayani Ahad Abdullah and involved crisis leadership training titled “Lead Through the Storm: Mastering Leadership Through Crisis” presented by Mr. Yusrein Hady Ghani from Hibiscus Brunei.

Practical Learning Experiences

Participants engaged in practical learning experiences, such as a Design Thinking and Innovation workshop led by Mr. Mohamad Fadhilullah Tudun of the Brunei Innovation Lab. Collaborative activities, including the use of TetraMap and the Four Player Model, were conducted by students. Additionally, a full-day team-building and Corporate Social Responsibility activity took place at Peliunan Park.

Cultural Heritage and Excursions

The program also provided participants with opportunities to learn about Brunei’s cultural heritage through excursions to notable landmarks like the Water Village and the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, along with a visit to the Brunei Innovation Lab to engage with the local innovation ecosystem. The event concluded with an Appreciation Dinner, celebrating cultural diversity through traditional attire and performances.
