The First Batch of Students to the Master of Science in Nursing Degree Programme
The Department of Nursing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya is delighted to announce the registration of the first batch of students to the Master of Science in Nursing degree programme on 13th of May 2023 commemorating one of the most awaited milestones in the department as well as the history of nursing education in Sri Lanka. With this remarkable occasion of inaugurating the first Master of Science in Nursing degree programme offered by a conventional university, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences added another historical record after being the first faculty dedicated for nursing and allied health science education in Sri Lanka. The main aim of the programme is to prepare locally and internationally recognized nursing graduates who can actively contribute to advanced nursing, clinical practice, healthcare through education and research that enhance the health and wellbeing of the society. Nurses who work in various sectors including both preventive and curative health services went through a standard screening and selection process and eventually got registered for the degree programme. After the registration of the selected candidates, academic and nonacademic staff members of the Department of Nursing conducted the brief orientation session which was held at the main lecture hall of the faculty. Dr. Damayanthi Dasanayake, the Head of the Department of Nursing, and Ms. Renu Nandasena, the Coordinator of the programme addressed the gathering followed by an open conversation which provided an opportunity for the registered candidates to discuss with the academic staff and clarify any question related to the degree programme.
