Nagaoka University of Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering Collaborate for Joint Research

A delegation from Nagaoka University of Technology in Japan visited Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE) on January 9, 2026, to discuss potential collaborative research opportunities. The meeting was aimed at fostering international cooperation and enhancing academic development between the two institutions.

Representatives from HCM-UTE included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chau Dinh Thanh, Vice President, alongside leaders from various faculties, such as Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering, as well as officials from the Institute of International Education and the Office of Science and Technology.

The visiting delegation comprised Prof. Dr. Toru Sasaki, Deputy Director of the Global Education Center; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kazumasa Takahashi from the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering; and Prof. Hirokazu Doi from the Department of Information and Management Systems Engineering.

Discussions on Research Collaboration

During the discussions, HCM-UTE representatives emphasized the university’s dedication to expanding international research collaborations with leading technical universities. This effort is seen as essential for improving research quality, increasing international publications, and developing a skilled workforce. Both institutions recognized the importance of leveraging their strengths in education and applied research for future joint projects.

Insights from Nagaoka University

Nagaoka University of Technology acknowledged HCM-UTE’s capabilities, particularly in the fields of engineering, technology, and innovation. Japanese professors provided insights into key research initiatives, including those conducted in the Plasma Laboratory and the Cognitive Neuroinformatics Laboratory, which could lead to various interdisciplinary collaborations.

Future Collaboration Opportunities

Further discussions touched on the possibility of forming joint research groups, co-supervising graduate students, and sharing research facilities in the future. Faculty members at HCM-UTE expressed interest in connecting with laboratories at Nagaoka University to facilitate deeper collaboration.

Establishing a Foundation for Cooperation

The meeting established a foundation for ongoing and practical research cooperation between the two universities. Both institutions are optimistic that their collaborative efforts will contribute to enhancing scientific and technological capabilities, while also strengthening their position within the framework of Vietnam-Japan academic cooperation.

Name Change of HCM-UTE

On December 26, 2025, an official decision was made to rename Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering. This name change reflects a strategic orientation towards multidimensional development, emphasizing the university’s focus on technology and engineering capabilities.
