University of Luzon Students Explore Resilience and Career Opportunities in Medical Laboratory Science

The College of Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, and Biology at the University of Luzon recently hosted a seminar designed to support student professional development. The event, titled “The Roadmap to RMT: Challenges, Careers, & Opportunities,” took place on December 17, 2025, in a hybrid format that combined an on-site gathering in Room 525 with virtual streaming. This initiative aimed to connect academic education with practical experiences in the medical field.

Alumni Experiences

During the seminar, two distinguished alumni and Registered Medical Technologists, Ms. Daisy Camille Maminta and Mr. Brazzy E. Pasiliao, shared their personal experiences related to their journeys toward professional licensure. Both alumni emphasized the significance of resilience and the integration of academic efforts with personal interests.

Ms. Maminta highlighted resilience as a key factor in overcoming obstacles in both academic and professional contexts. She noted that her involvement in extracurricular activities had positively influenced her mental health, challenging the belief that pursuing a career in medicine necessitates sacrificing personal pursuits. Her insights pointed to the supportive atmosphere at the university, which facilitates a harmonious integration of students’ personal and professional lives.

In a similar vein, Mr. Pasiliao shared his own educational path, which was characterized by doubts and considerations of leaving school to enter the workforce. His decision to persist with his studies ultimately yielded professional opportunities, offering current students an encouraging example. He noted that while technical skills are essential, personal determination is equally important for achieving success.

Organizational Efforts and Commitment

The seminar also highlighted the organizational efforts of second, third, and fourth-year Medical Laboratory Science students, who collaborated under the guidance of their adviser, Mrs. Allysa Nina Mayo-Ama. Dean Tzarita Marie P. Mayo provided the closing remarks, reiterating the university’s commitment to cultivating skilled healthcare professionals.

Sustainable Development Goals Alignment

Moreover, the “Roadmap to RMT” initiative aligns with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to health, education, and economic advancement. The University of Luzon aims to furnish its students with the necessary skills and resilience to succeed in the healthcare sector, thereby contributing to a proficient workforce capable of addressing global health challenges. A follow-up session is scheduled for December 20, 2025, as the narratives shared during the seminar continue to inspire students pursuing Registered Medical Technologist credentials.
