UBD Celebrates World Mental Health Day 2025: Emphasizing Resilience and Healing

On October 22, 2025, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) hosted an event titled “Speak Yourself – A Journey of Resilience & Healing” to observe World Mental Health Day. The gathering took place at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS) and was organized by the Centre for University Life and Wellness (UniHealth) in collaboration with the Student Affairs Section.
Event Purpose
The event aimed to encourage reflection, dialogue, and awareness regarding mental health and emotional well-being. The opening ceremony was held in the Concourse Area of the IHS Extension Building and included participation from students, academic staff, and healthcare professionals.
Opening Ceremony
Hajah Maudena Haji Abd Hamid, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for University Life and Governance, officiated the event. It commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the Doa Selamat, led by Religious Officer Ustaz Haji Muhammad Dzulhilmi Haji Moharefandi.
Keynote Address
Awg Dr Deeni Rudita Idris, Deputy Director of UniHEALTH and Co-chair of the event, emphasized the significance of nurturing resilience and mental health support. He encouraged attendees to engage in open discussions regarding their challenges and healing journeys.
The keynote address, titled “Beyond the Surface: Self-care Discovery in a Noisy World,” was delivered by Dr Khadizah binti Haji Abdul Mumin, Senior Assistant Professor in Nursing and Midwifery. She provided insights and practical advice on addressing mental health challenges, particularly within academic and healthcare settings. The event also featured a Q&A session, enabling participants to partake in meaningful dialogue.
