Chulalongkorn University’s Architecture Team Wins International Smart City Design Award

Chulalongkorn University’s architecture team achieved first place in the International Design Award for (Re)Engaging Cities’ Landscape for Cultural and Economic Vibrancy. The competition was held on October 1, 2025, in Nha Trang, Vietnam, organized by the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City in partnership with the Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee.
Competition Overview
The competition aimed to generate innovative design solutions for the Cai River area, emphasizing smart city concepts that promote economic growth while safeguarding the local ecosystem and cultural heritage. More than 160 teams and over 500 participants from 25 countries competed, resulting in the submission of over 60 projects.
Chulalongkorn University’s Project
The project submitted by Chulalongkorn University showcased the role of landscape architecture and cultural heritage in developing sustainable urban environments. The design proposes to create a resilient Nha Trang that integrates climate change adaptation with cultural and economic vibrancy. It is expected that this initiative will influence the General Plan for Nha Trang through 2040, contributing to sustainable development across cultural, economic, and environmental sectors.
