“Effective Research Success Strategies from UOW Expert”

On August 27, 2025, Professor Christian Ritz from the University of Wollongong (UOW), Australia, conducted a hybrid session at UOW Malaysia focused on research and grant application strategies. The event comprised 42 participants, including academic staff and postgraduate students from the Glenmarie and Batu Kawan campuses. The session sought to provide insights into extending research initiatives beyond academic settings to enhance connections with industry partners and international collaborators.

Strategies for Establishing Industry Partnerships

During the session, Professor Ritz outlined practical strategies for establishing productive partnerships with industry. He emphasized the advantages of conducting research showcases and engaging in innovative business activities, such as “speed dating,” which facilitate quick interactions that could pave the way for long-term collaborations. Additionally, he noted the significant role alumni can play in research by taking on advisory roles, participating in joint projects, or sharing industry expertise.

Importance of International Collaboration

Professor Ritz further highlighted the importance of international collaboration as a crucial component of successful research efforts. He introduced various funding opportunities, including the Global Science & Technology Diplomacy Fund, and discussed the potential for students and faculty to develop joint proposals or co-supervise postgraduate projects with other UOW campuses worldwide. This approach aims to foster transformative research initiatives and promote knowledge sharing.

Participant Engagement and Motivational Outcomes

The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, where participants raised inquiries about research funding and intellectual property concerns. Many attendees reported feeling motivated to broaden their perspectives and investigate innovative pathways for translating their research ideas into meaningful contributions at both local and global levels.
