Atty. Paisalin P.D. Tago Invested as 9th MSU President with Nine-Point Agenda for National Peace University

On August 13, 2025, Atty. Paisalin P.D. Tago was installed as the 9th President of the Mindanao State University (MSU) System during a formal ceremony at the Dimaporo Gymnasium. This event followed his appointment on June 27, 2025, marking a notable moment in the university’s history. During his investiture, President Tago introduced a comprehensive Nine-Point Agenda aimed at elevating MSU’s status to a National Peace University, with an emphasis on enhancing the educational landscape of the nation, particularly among Muslim communities and indigenous groups.

Investiture Ceremony Highlights

The investiture ceremony combined traditional elements and forward-looking objectives, beginning with a formal processional and an invocation delivered by Mohammad Jihan M. Macarambon. This was followed by the Philippine National Anthem and the Bangsamoro Hymn. Dr. Alma E. Berowa, Vice President for Academic Affairs, provided a welcome address. The event was attended by various government officials, including OPAPRU Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr. and BARMM Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua, along with local leaders who extended their congratulations to the new president.

Cultural performances by MSU Sining Pananadem entertained attendees. Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education, highlighted the importance of achieving global recognition for MSU’s educational quality and competitiveness. She expressed confidence in President Tago’s leadership and called for collaboration and optimism for the future.

In his inaugural address, President Tago emphasized the need for action, referencing the phrase “Acta non verba” (Actions, not words). Each component of the Nine-Point Agenda plays a critical role in the university’s vision for transformation.

The first agenda item, Institutional Alignment and Governance, aims to standardize policies and improve collaboration among campuses, ensuring accountability and ethical leadership. The second point, Strategic Planning and Validation of Institutional Developments, focuses on aligning institutional initiatives with national and global educational standards.

Quality Assurance and Global Competitiveness, outlined in the third point, seeks to enhance MSU’s visibility and compliance with quality assurance frameworks. The fourth point, dedicated to Curriculum Enhancements, Research, Extension Services, and Production, emphasizes the importance of integrating Peace Education into the curriculum.

The fifth item, Rehabilitation and Preservation of Cultural and Religious Heritage, stresses the restoration of heritage sites, such as the King Faisal Mosque and the Aga Khan Museum, to foster cultural understanding and diplomacy.

The sixth agenda component, Human Resource Development and Culture Building, focuses on enhancing faculty capabilities while promoting a culture of integrity and inclusivity. The seventh point, Student Welfare and Peacebuilding Initiatives, prioritizes mental health and well-being for students, alongside enhanced facilities.

The eighth agenda item addresses Infrastructure Improvement, Development, and Digital Transformation, aiming to modernize facilities and create a “smart campus” environment. Finally, the ninth point, Communications, Public Engagement, Security, and Order, focuses on promoting transparency and building relationships within the community.
