IEM Engineering Quest 2025: Connecting Engineering Students Across Malaysia for Smart City Solutions

The inaugural IEM Engineering Quest 2025 took place from June 21 to 22, bringing together approximately 60 engineering students from various universities across Malaysia. This two-day inter-varsity competition focused on themes related to “Smart City” solutions and project management.
Event Organization and Locations
The event was co-organized by the IEM student sections of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and the IEM Young Engineers Section (YES), and it was held at two locations: UTAR Sungai Long and XMUM.
Activities and Engagements
Participants engaged in a range of activities designed to enhance critical thinking, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills. These activities included research presentations, mock tendering challenges, and an interactive quiz session conducted by IBM Malaysia.
Day One Highlights
The first day, hosted at UTAR, included opportunities for students to present their research, as well as sessions featuring insights from industry professionals.
Day Two Highlights
The second day, held at XMUM, featured a mock tendering challenge, where finalists simulated real-world project bids and presented their proposals to a panel of judges.
Participating Institutions
Participating institutions included UTAR, XMUM, UKM, University of Malaya, Monash University Malaysia, Sunway University, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Asia Pacific University, and SEGi University.
Conclusion and Awards
The event concluded with a ceremony at XMUM where representatives from participating universities and industry judges provided remarks and awards were presented to the top-performing teams.

IEM-XMUM Student Section
Established in 2023, the IEM-XMUM Student Section is composed of students from the Chemical Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering programs and aims to foster academic and professional development within the XMUM community.
