HCMUTE Students Achieve Second and Third Prizes at MTA Automation Competition 2025

On July 5, 2025, the final round of the MTA Automation Competition 2025 took place at the SMEDEC Technical Center, part of the MTA Vietnam 2025 International Exhibition. The event saw participation from multiple universities and technical colleges across Southern Vietnam. Two teams from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) were awarded Second and Third Prizes.

Competition Overview

The competition, organized by SMEDEC in partnership with businesses from the mechanical engineering sector, aimed to foster innovation and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) while promoting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in industrial production. This year’s theme was “Applying Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Detail Inspection Efficiency in Mechanical Engineering,” focusing on the integration of AI within inspection and manufacturing processes.

Competition Structure

An initial online qualifying round required teams to submit video presentations of their ESG solutions. Following this, the top five teams were selected to compete in-person in the final round. The competition comprised two components: a technical practice phase and a solution presentation phase.

Technical and Presentation Phases

During the technical round, participants utilized 3D scanning technology, created models using SolidWorks, produced CAM/CNC files, and employed AI-enabled cameras to identify defects in cutting tools. In the presentation phase, teams proposed AI-integrated solutions aligned with ESG principles and answered judges’ questions, assessing their interdisciplinary knowledge, precision, and teamwork skills.

Achievements of HCMUTE Teams

Despite facing strong competition, the HCMUTE teams displayed significant expertise. Team SPK2, featuring Duong Thanh Thang, Hoang Van Thinh, Ho Dinh Trieu, and Dang Quang Vinh, received the Second Prize, while Team SPK1, comprised of Le Khac Chien, Pham Thanh Hoang Phuong, Nguyen Duc Thanh, and Nguyen Cong Thanh, achieved the Third Prize. Both teams were mentored by lecturer Trần Minh Thế Uyên, demonstrating thorough preparation and professionalism throughout the competition.

Impact of the MTA Automation Competition 2025

The results from the MTA Automation Competition 2025 illustrate the commitment and innovative spirit of HCMUTE students, alongside the institution’s emphasis on applied training. This approach aims to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, enhancing research capabilities and developing professional skills to adapt to the requirements of the Industry 4.0 era.

MTA Vietnam 2025 International Exhibition

The MTA Vietnam 2025 International Exhibition is recognized as the largest annual event in the mechanical engineering and manufacturing sector, featuring over 500 brands from 21 countries from July 2 to July 5. The exhibition included various activities such as business networking, training, and technology transfer, significantly contributing to the advancement of Vietnam’s smart manufacturing ecosystem.
