Curtin Malaysia Inspires SMK Lutong Students with Engaging Science Experiments

On March 28, 2025, Curtin University Malaysia conducted a “Science Experiment Showcase: Fun with Science” event at SMK Lutong, engaging 154 Form One and Form Two students. The event aimed to foster interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines among participants, in support of Sarawak’s goal to enhance STEM participation by the year 2026.
Event Overview
Organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Science, the showcase featured hands-on experiments that allowed students to explore scientific concepts through practical applications. Activities included demonstrations of Elephant Toothpaste reactions, Lava Lamps, and experiments with Non-Newtonian Fluids.
Importance of Experiential Learning
Ir. Jenney Ngu, a project advisor, emphasized the importance of experiential learning, noting that such initiatives help develop critical thinking skills and encourage a passion for discovery among students.
