UNAIR Communication Department Alumni Reunion: Strengthening Professional Networks and Connections

The Communication Department of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an alumni gathering on February 1, 2025, at Soetandyo Hall, located on the Dharmawangsa-B Campus. The event aimed to strengthen professional networks among alumni and included activities such as performances by alumni representatives and a photography exhibition featuring the work of Communication Science students.

Attendance and Highlights

The gathering attracted alumni from various graduating classes, as well as retired faculty members. Prof. Dr. Elly Munadziroh, the Director of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs at UNAIR, highlighted the importance of nurturing strong relationships between the university and its alumni. She stated that Communication Science graduates from UNAIR have achieved the highest employability rates within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), which underscores their involvement in the university’s ongoing development.

Employability and Alumni Contributions

Prof. Munadziroh indicated that UNAIR currently ranks second in employability, attributing this success largely to the contributions of its alumni. She stressed the need to maintain and further develop the connection between the institution and its graduates.

Proposals for Enhancement

During the event, a proposal was made for the establishment of cohort coordinators to improve communication among alumni, along with the introduction of the Alumni Global Challenge—an initiative aimed at mentoring high-achieving students.

Significance of the Reunion

Irfan Wahyudi, a faculty member and Vice Dean III of FISIP UNAIR, regarded the reunion as a significant opportunity for reconnecting and fostering intergenerational bonds. He noted that such events facilitate alumni in enhancing their professional networks while also providing support to recent graduates as they acclimate to the alumni community, thereby improving their career prospects.

Future Gatherings

Titik Puji Rahayu, the Head of the Communication Science Department, reiterated the importance of the reunion in reconnecting alumni and sharing experiences. She expressed optimism for future gatherings that could further inspire and motivate alumni.
