Tianjin University Launches International and Area Studies Academic Development Association

On December 13, 2024, Tianjin University inaugurated the Tianjin International and Area Studies Academic Development Association. The launch event featured participation from leaders of the Tianjin Federation of Social Science, representatives from the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, and academics from various local universities. The School of Foreign Languages at Tianjin University hosted the gathering.

Institutional Accomplishments

During the event, Zheng Gang, Vice President of Tianjin University, outlined the institution’s accomplishments in interdisciplinary research and talent development. He noted the recent establishment of the Institute for Global South Studies in September and highlighted the association’s aim to align with national strategic priorities while pursuing innovative methods in area studies.

Advancing Education and Research

Yuan Shijun from the Tianjin Federation of Social Science and Yang Minghai from the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission addressed the association’s significant role in advancing education, promoting research, and supporting China’s efforts in global governance.

Launch Activities

The launch included the unveiling of the association plaque, academic presentations, and the inaugural council meeting, which ratified the association’s charter and set forth future initiatives. The primary objectives of the association include enhancing collaboration, supporting national development goals, and nurturing high-caliber talent in the field of area studies.
