UniMAP ERASMUS+ Information Session: Your Gateway to Global Education Opportunities

On December 4, 2024, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) conducted an ERASMUS+ Information Session at the Auditorium Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Library, drawing over 100 attendees. The event aimed to introduce opportunities for collaboration between Malaysian higher education institutions and their European counterparts through the ERASMUS+ program.

Opening Remarks

The session opened with remarks from Prof. Ir. Dr. Rizalafande Che Ismail, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at UniMAP. Eero Oinonen, Political Officer of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Malaysia, then presented on the significance of educational partnerships between Malaysia and Europe and the role of the ERASMUS+ program in fostering academic excellence and cultural exchange. Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Noorhafiza Muhammad from UniMAP shared success stories that illustrated the beneficial impact of the ERASMUS+ program on academic collaboration.

Key Presentation on ERASMUS+ Components

A notable segment of the event featured a presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, Director of UTM International and ERASMUS+ National Focal Point (ENFP) for Malaysia. Dr. Ariffin discussed the ENFP’s essential role in enhancing partnerships between Malaysia and European institutions, offering an overview of several ERASMUS+ components, including International Credit Mobility (ICM), Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM), Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM), and Jean Monnet Actions. He highlighted the Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) initiative as vital for fostering institutional innovation and sustainable growth.

Guidance for Project Proposals

In addition, Dr. Ariffin provided practical advice on developing effective project proposals that align with European partners and navigated attendees through the ERASMUS+ application process. This guidance aimed to enable institutions to leverage the program’s opportunities effectively and to view ERASMUS+ as a means of international collaboration and educational growth.

Conclusion and Commitment

The session concluded with a restatement of UniMAP’s commitment to enhancing educational partnerships with Europe and acknowledged the significant role of the ENFP Malaysia in promoting internationalization efforts in Malaysian higher education. The event emphasized the potential for meaningful collaborations, transformative research, and institutional progress through participation in the ERASMUS+ program.
