FEM IPB University Explores Agriphotovoltaic Technology: Solar Panels Generating 5,000 Watts Daily
The Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at IPB University recently conducted a workshop dedicated to Agriphotovoltaic (APV) technology and smart agriculture systems. This event occurred on November 21, 2024, at the FEM Auditorium on the IPB Dramaga Campus in Bogor.
Workshop Overview
Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik, the Dean of FEM, indicated that the workshop is part of a series of events designed to lead up to the inauguration of an Agriphotovoltaic system and a framework for smart agriculture. The objective of the workshop was to provide participants with insights into the smart agriculture systems under development at IPB University.
Agriphotovoltaic System Details
The APV system incorporates solar panels that are capable of generating up to 5,000 watts of power per day, with designs that allow for the cultivation of different crops beneath the panels. This configuration aims to enhance production efficiency and add economic value.
Challenges and Solutions in Agriculture
During the workshop, Sung Yoon, CEO of Envelops Co, pointed out that rising global temperatures present significant challenges for agricultural productivity. He noted that global temperatures have increased by an average of one to three degrees Celsius over the past decade, impacting crop yields negatively.
Economic Benefits of Agriphotovoltaic Systems
Yoon further elaborated on the potential benefits of the Agriphotovoltaic system, asserting that it represents a clean energy source that could increase farmers’ incomes by as much as 50 percent, depending on the crop types grown. Additionally, Mr. Sang Min Eun, General Manager of Korea East West Power, discussed how the solar power system not only generates clean energy but also fosters a more adaptable agricultural environment, aiming to enhance productivity while ensuring optimal growth conditions for renewable energy systems.
