SEGians Explore Future Trends at CIDB-CIOB Youth Arena Convention Malaysia 2024

Students from SEGi University participated in the CIDB-CIOB Youth Arena Convention Malaysia (YACM) 2024, held on October 23-24 as part of the International Construction Week (ICW) BuildXpo Malaysia.

Convention Overview

A group of 23 Quantity Surveying students attended the convention, which centered on emerging construction technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, automation, and sustainable building practices. The event aimed to provide insights into innovations that are transforming the construction industry, particularly in optimizing project efficiency, enhancing safety, and minimizing environmental impact.

Competition Participation

During the convention, students took part in an AI Quiz competition alongside peers from 11 other universities. Notably, SEGi students were members of every winning team, reflecting their strong understanding and capability in applying AI technologies within the construction sector. This outcome indicates SEGi University’s focus on equipping students with practical skills that align with current industry needs in a digital context.

Impact of Digital Transformation

A report from McKinsey & Company highlights that digital transformation in construction could boost productivity by 14-15%, with AI and automation playing crucial roles in reducing project delays and enhancing safety measures. The global construction sector is projected to grow at an annual rate of 3.9% through 2030, fueled by advancements in digital technology and sustainable construction methods.

Awards and Recognition

Additionally, Kong Lin Ting, a SEGi alumnus, received the Best Student Award at the convention for his notable contributions to the field. This recognition illustrates the educational quality at SEGi University and the significant influence of its graduates within the industry.
