Thammasat collaborates with IBM Thailand to launch an online course ‘Data Science – AI’

        Thammasat University and IBM Thailand Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the “Thammasat – IBM SkillsBuild” project. The project aims to provide free support to undergraduate students to gain interdisciplinary knowledge and essential skills for the current global environment and future careers.

The signing is part of the policy to promote unlimited and borderless learning for students through learning in online courses provided by leading computer and information technology (IT) companies worldwide, such as IBM E-learning Courses consisting of four main subject groups: Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Security, and Cloud.

         Prof. Dr. Rattha-korn Vilaichone, Assistant to the Rector for Academic Affairs at Thammasat University, stated that Thammasat asserts that learning in the field of information technology is an important knowledge to enable students with essential skills in the future. It concerns a contribution to the advancement of the country. Therefore, the university has collaborated with IBM in implementing the aforementioned project. Thammasat University is the first institution to undertake the Credit Bank project with IBM.

        Prof. Dr. Rattha-korn stated that after the signing of the agreement on January 31, 2024, the university will activate the system for students to access the course through the Thammasat website and the IBM website. In each subject group, learning content will be divided into three levels: basic, intermediate, and advanced. Upon completion of each subject, students will receive an E-Certification and will be able to transfer credits earned from this study. They can also choose to study as elective courses.

“In addition to enabling learning anywhere and anytime, we are confident that the course developed jointly by TU and IBM has an effective assessment system that can evaluate the learning ability of students. Assoc. Prof. Gasinee Witoonchart, the Rector of Thammasat University, pointed out that the university’s mission is to contribute to the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of Thailand, particularly in SDG 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for everyone.

        Assoc. Prof. Gasinee stated that this collaboration to access knowledge beyond the classroom will serve as an example for both Thai and international universities. It will also contribute to strengthening the education system, leading to the production of efficient students who are important resources for the country. This will create the promising future demands of the workforce while ensuring the effectiveness of the budget utilization.
