UTAR’s Duo Wins Bronze Medal in Men’s Doubles at Varsity Racquet Championship 2025

At the Varsity Racquet Championship (VRC) 2025, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) achieved a commendable result when the men’s doubles pair of Ngo Rong Cheng and Lee Wen Xuan secured the Bronze medal. Representing the Kampar Campus, the duo demonstrated notable skill and dedication throughout the tournament.
Challenges Faced by the Athletes
Ngo, a student in Advertising, and Lee, studying Financial Economics, encountered various challenges during the championship, particularly as they were the last remaining hope for their team after earlier eliminations. The duo staged a comeback in the Bronze medal match, overcoming an 8–3 deficit by winning eight consecutive points, ultimately achieving victory.
Event Overview
The championship, jointly organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia, and Universiti Malaya, took place from November 4 to 8, 2025, at the Auditorium Kompleks Perdana Siswa UM. It was exclusively available for students from Malaysian private universities and served as an important platform for selections for the Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (SIPMA).
UTAR’s Participation
UTAR participated with a contingent of eight players, several of whom reached the Round of 32 and Round of 16 stages. While the emphasis was placed on the Bronze medal attained by Ngo and Lee, the entire team exhibited commendable sportsmanship and improved their skills in a competitive setting.
