KLUST Attends 2025 China (Guangxi)–ASEAN Conference on Vocational Education: Key Cooperation Agreements Signed

Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) participated in the 2025 China (Guangxi)–ASEAN Conference on Vocational Education Cooperation and Development, which took place on September 15 in Nanning, Guangxi. The conference, organized by the Guangxi Department of Education, was themed “Promoting AI Empowerment in Vocational Education, Building a Digital Foundation for Vocational Education.” It featured a main session along with five parallel sessions. At the event, KLUST signed multiple cooperation agreements.

Opening Ceremony and Notable Participants

The opening ceremony included remarks from Lu Xinning, Vice-Governor of the Guangxi Autonomous Region. Delegates from several ASEAN countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, and Myanmar attended the conference. Noteworthy participants included Chea Kosal, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia, and Shi Zhongjun, Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Center. The proceedings were overseen by Liang Lei, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

New Initiatives and Agreements

During the conference, several initiatives were launched, including the “China–ASEAN Modern Craftsman College AI Empowerment Construction Plan,” the “AI Talent Training Program for ASEAN,” and the inaugural ASEAN University Invitational Tournament. Representing KLUST, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suraya Amirrudin signed a joint education cooperation agreement with Guangxi Communications Vocational and Technical College, thereby enhancing international collaboration.

Vice Council Membership and Innovation Cooperation Center

Additionally, KLUST was appointed as a Vice Council Member of the newly established China–ASEAN Innovation Cooperation Center for AI in Transportation. This center comprises 60 member universities, enterprises, and institutions from China and ASEAN countries, focusing on initiatives related to intelligent traffic management and smart logistics. The center aims to foster deeper cooperation in technical standards, research, and talent development.

Keynote Address and Future Directions

In her keynote address, Prof. Suraya highlighted KLUST’s dedication to educational advancement through technological empowerment. She outlined the university’s goals to explore innovative models for integrating AI into education, research, and industry, while advocating for collaborative development that enhances the educational landscape between China and ASEAN nations.

Post-Conference Activities

Following the conference, members of the KLUST delegation, along with officials from Guangxi Vocational and Technical College of Communications, toured the college’s laboratories and training facilities to lay the groundwork for future cooperation. The delegation also included representatives from Anhui Luhai Business Vocational College.
