BNU Zhuhai International Cultural Festival 2025: Embracing Diverse Cultures and Youthful Connections

The 2nd BNU Zhuhai International Cultural Festival commenced on November 29 with the theme “Diverse Cultures Bloom, Youth Walks Side by Side” at Library Square. The festival was officially launched by Sun Hongpei, Vice President of Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Director of the Administrative Committee of BNU Zhuhai.
Opening Ceremony and Welcome Speech
During the opening ceremony, Guo Kanjun, Director of the International Office of BNU Zhuhai, welcomed guests and outlined the institution’s recent achievements in internationalization. She emphasized the importance of the festival’s theme, highlighting the role of youth in fostering cultural exchanges and mutual understanding. Guo expressed the hope that participants would utilize the festival to enhance appreciation for diverse cultures and promote Chinese culture internationally.
Cultural Performances
The opening ceremony featured various performances, including a dance called “Jade Bird,” which celebrated traditional Chinese culture and the beauty of nature. In addition, a collaborative performance titled “Матушка Земля (Mother Earth)” by students from China and Russia showcased a blend of cultural expressions.
International Representation
The festival saw representatives from 22 countries parading in their traditional attire, reflecting their unique cultural heritages. Following the ceremonies, the “Take You to My Home” International Cultural Showcase presented 18 interactive cultural booths organized by students. This portion of the festival allowed attendees to participate in an array of cultural activities, including traditional dance performances, culinary exhibitions, and hands-on experiences that highlighted the diversity of global cultures.
Chinese Cultural Heritage Booth
A booth dedicated to Chinese cultural heritage garnered significant interest, featuring activities such as paper-cutting and Tibetan art. Additionally, interactive performances that showcased various musical and dance styles contributed to a lively environment of cross-cultural engagement.
Preliminary Activities and Goals
Preliminary activities for the festival included a cultural salon led by Honorary Professor Inkeri Ruokonen from the University of Turku, which focused on Finnish education. The festival aimed to strengthen cultural integration and educational exchange, aligning with its overarching theme. The event gathered over 500 participants from 41 countries, reinforcing BNU Zhuhai’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic international community on campus.
