MFU Hosts Oregon Health & Science University Delegates for Medical Student Exchange and Disease Control Collaboration

Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) hosted a delegation from Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) on October 14-15, 2025, to discuss potential collaborations related to medical student exchange programs and public health initiatives. The conversations were led by MFU’s Vice President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont, and Assoc. Prof. Preecha Soontranan, M.D., Dean of the School of Medicine.
OHSU Delegation Overview
The OHSU delegation was headed by Professor Nathan R. Selden, M.D., Dean of the School of Medicine, and included notable representatives such as Justin Denny, M.D., M.P.H., and Dr. Leah Cronn from the OHSU Global Health Center.
Focus on Disease Control Collaboration
During the meetings, the progress of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was a focal point. This initiative is designed to enhance medical cooperation and regional disease management capabilities between MFU and OHSU. Discussions included evaluations of the CDC project’s status and strategies for future collaboration.
Future Exchange Programs
Plans for exchange programs slated for 2026 were also outlined. These programs aim to provide research opportunities, such as the potential for OHSU medical students to travel to MFU to study postoperative pain management. Additionally, MFU students and researchers may engage in collaborative research at OHSU, particularly in the development of HPV vaccines.
Tour of MFU Facilities
The delegation toured several significant sites at MFU, including the HRH Princess Srinagarindra statue, the Mekong Basin Civilization Museum, Mae Fah Luang University Hospital, and the School of Medicine. This tour offered insights into MFU’s history, development, and future objectives.
Long-term Impact of Collaboration
The collaboration between MFU and OHSU is focused on enhancing medical and public health capabilities across the Mekong Subregion. It is anticipated that this partnership will contribute to the long-term development of healthcare systems and disease control efforts in the region.
