Kyushu University Students Join Pusan National University Summer School 2025 for Cross-Cultural Learning Experience

Three students from Kyushu University participated in the Pusan National University (PNU) Summer School 2025, which took place in Busan, South Korea, from August 3 to 22, 2025. This three-week program was designed to enhance the engagement of Japanese students through Korean language instruction and cultural field trips.

The exchange initiative is supported by a bilateral agreement between Kyushu University and Pusan National University, both of which are members of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).

Participating Students

The participating students were:

  • Reimei Mitsuyasu, fourth-year student from the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation
  • Yoshiko Kusano, fourth-year student from the School of Design
  • Wakana Okamoto, third-year student from the School of Design

Kyushu University’s Commitment

Kyushu University emphasizes the development of globally competent leaders capable of addressing the complexities of international challenges. The institution promotes opportunities for personal and professional growth through various international partnerships and consortia.

Program Details

  • Dates: August 3–22, 2025 (20 days)
  • Location: Busan, South Korea (Pusan National University)
  • Funding: Participation and travel expenses were financed by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) in South Korea.

Eligibility: The program invited twenty undergraduate students from Japanese universities, extending invitations specifically to APRU member institutions.

Program Structure

The summer school consisted of two primary components:

  1. Technical Training: A two-week segment at Hyundai Motor Company’s Ulsan Plant, focusing on autonomous vehicle design and algorithm development using 3D printing technology.
  2. Cultural and Language Immersion: A one-week segment that included courses in Korean calligraphy, Taekwondo, and K-pop dance.

Through such initiatives, Kyushu University aims to cultivate individuals prepared to engage with global issues, thereby contributing to the development of future leaders equipped for success on the international stage.
