USM PPSF Welcomes Thai Pharmacy Delegation for Enhanced Academic Collaboration and Regional Cooperation

Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPSF) recently hosted a delegation from the Council of Pharmacy Deans of Thailand (CPDT) and the Faculty of Pharmacy from Prince of Songkla University. The official visit, held on August 14, 2025, aimed to enhance regional academic collaboration and explore future directions in pharmaceutical education and research.

Delegation Overview

The delegation, led by Professor Dr. Pornsak Sriamornsak, the President of CPDT and Dean of Silpakorn University, was received by the PPSF management team, which included Associate Professor Dr. Nurzalina Abdul Karim Khan and senior faculty members from various Thai institutions.

The meeting took place in the PPSF Conference Room, where participants engaged in discussions about several strategic challenges facing the PPSF. Key topics included the importance of integrating Social and Administrative Pharmacy with Clinical Pharmacy to improve both visibility and impact within the field.

Discussions also covered the forthcoming launch of a Master of Public Health in Pharmacy program and the potential introduction of a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, in response to national expectations and the evolving demands of healthcare.

Other notable issues raised during the meeting included staffing continuity, the role of retired academics, and the pursuit of sustaining global rankings. These discussions underscored the commitment of PPSF to foster innovation while upholding a legacy of excellence.
