University of Northern Philippines Launches 2025 ASEAN Month Celebration

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) has initiated its celebration of the 2025 ASEAN Month, demonstrating support for the regional initiative among member countries. The event began on August 4, 2025, coinciding with the university’s flag-raising ceremony, during which officials, faculty, and staff wore attire inspired by ASEAN culture.

Proclamation No. 282

This celebration is in line with Proclamation No. 282, which updates Proclamation No. 1008 that mandates the annual recognition of ASEAN Month. The activities planned for the month will culminate on August 8, known as ASEAN Day, which commemorates the founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Civil Service Commission Guidelines

UNP’s initiative to wear themed attire also adheres to the Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 16, which encourages government officials and employees to don ASEAN-themed garments on the first Monday of each month. This effort aims to foster cultural awareness, promote regional identity, and encourage the use of indigenous fabrics within the government sector, reflecting the Philippines’ commitment to regional cooperation across various socio-economic frameworks.

Month of Activities

Throughout August, the university will host a series of events under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” This year’s national theme, “BUWAN NG ASEAN: Sama-Sama sa Pag-unlad” (ASEAN Month: Together for Progress), highlights the importance of collaborative growth and development. UNP’s participation in the celebration illustrates its commitment to fostering cultural awareness and enhancing regional collaboration within its community.
