“Unsri Secures Feasibility Study Funding for Kertalaya Train Operations with PT KAI Divre III Palembang”

Sriwijaya University (Unsri) has obtained funding for a feasibility study concerning the operation of the Kertalaya Train from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Divre III Palembang. This funding was officially transferred to the Sriwijaya University Business Management Agency during an event at the Faculty of Engineering on July 8, 2025.
Support for Kertalaya Train Reactivation
Professor Dr. Eng. Joni Arliansyah, who serves as the Deputy Rector IV for Planning and Cooperation at Unsri, acknowledged PT KAI’s support for the reactivation of the Kertalaya Train. He noted that this funding is in accordance with a memorandum of understanding designed to facilitate the reactivation process, which includes collaboration between Unsri, KAI, the Provincial Government, and the Director General of Railways.

The assistance for the feasibility study is considered particularly beneficial in addressing the transportation requirements of Unsri students.
Commitment from PT KAI
Januri, the Executive Vice President of PT KAI Divre III Palembang, reiterated the organization’s commitment to the reorganization of the Kertalaya Train service. He emphasized the project’s importance for students and the local community, stating that it will involve a thorough assessment of technical, economic, socio-cultural, and non-technical factors, in partnership with qualified entities such as Unsri.
Broader Public Transportation Goals
The feasibility study aims to analyze not only transportation for students but also the broader public transportation needs along the Palembang-Indralaya route, while exploring enhancements in public transport accessibility on and off campus.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including academic and administrative officials from Unsri and representatives from PT KAI.
