KOTA KINABALU, 13 February 2025 – Jesselton University College (JUC) has officially formalized its partnership with Sabah Cheshire Home and Services through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing its dedication to promoting inclusivity and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The signing ceremony was witnessed by YBhg. Datuk Maria Chong from the Kementerian Pembangunan Masyarakat dan Kesejahteraan Rakyat (KPMKR), highlighting the government’s support for initiatives that enhance opportunities for PWDs.
The MoU marks a pivotal step in strengthening community awareness of disability rights, education, and employment opportunities. This collaboration is set to develop impactful training programs, share expertise, and enhance resources to foster a more inclusive society, particularly within the hospitality industry. JUC recognizes that education plays a crucial role in empowering PWDs, and this partnership aligns with the university’s mission to bridge the gap between education and employability for marginalized communities.
Through this initiative, JUC and Sabah Cheshire Home and Services will work towards developing specialized training programs tailored to equip PWDs with vocational and professional skills in the hospitality sector, promoting disability awareness and advocacy through community engagement activities, public forums, and educational campaigns, enhancing accessibility in education and employment by ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive equal opportunities for personal and professional development, and fostering knowledge exchange by leveraging the expertise of both institutions to create a sustainable, inclusive learning environment.
Jesselton University College is committed to making education accessible to all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities. This partnership with Sabah Cheshire Home and Services reflects our dedication to ensuring that PWDs are given the resources, training, and support needed to thrive in both academic and professional settings,” said a JUC representative during the signing ceremony.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). By advocating for equal access to education, training, and employment, JUC and Sabah Cheshire Home and Services are taking a proactive role in reducing disparities and fostering a more inclusive society.
